Come dancing….

Can’t attend the conference, but in Toronto (and area) on October 20? Why not join us for the closing banquet?

Please come meet colleagues and new friends, enjoy a great meal and dance the night away - all are welcome!

Use the registration form, indicate that you’ll be registering only for the banquet, and make your cheque out to NE2007!

For those of us who are attending the conference, don’t forget that you can register your favourite dance partner as a guest at the opening reception and the closing banquet.

Question for Torontonians / fans of Toronto

This question was posted to the wiki recently,  and doesn’t have an answer yet.  I could fill in my favourites, but would love to see reponses from others:

What are your favorite restaurants (of all cuisines) in the downtown, Eaton Centre and Annex areas of Toronto?

Head over to the wiki to respond now!  (it’s toward the bottom of the page under “questions”).

 Cheers,
Connie

New Look to the Wiki

I was getting bored with our wiki so switched out the design for something a little funkier (it’s called “bamboo”).  Let me know what you think!    http://librarieswithoutborders.pbwiki.com/

By the way, if you have registered or are planning on registering, please add your name to the wiki so we can see who is coming.  I’m excited to see how many people have done so already!

And if you don’t see a page of information that you think should be there, why not start one yourself?

Cheers,
Connie

More to see in Toronto

Several new public spaces have opened in the past little while - you may want to check these out!

The Royal Ontario Museum has recently emerged from a scaffold cocoon for the unveiling of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, a spectacular addition fashioned of steel and glass. Home of the Institute for Contemporary Culture, this sleek, ultra-modern addition is either an architectural achievement or a blight on the historic edifice of the ROM - check it out for yourself!

Irish President Mary MacAleese was on hand to officially open the Toronto Irish Famine Memorial on June 21. I’ve seen the memorial from the water, it’s a moving sight.

The park is a bit hidden; here’s how you get there:

1. From Union Station, take a “509 Exhibition” streetcar to Bathurst Street.

2. At Bathurst & Queens Quay, the street sign for the south side will read Eireann Quay, which is the new name of Bathurst Quay. Walk towards the lake and city centre airport ferry dock.

3. When you reach the lake turn left.

4. The park is at the corner, behind the Canada Malting silos.

Mary Saulig and her social committee are busily compiling a guide to the Toronto, to help you take advantage of the time you have with us. Those who have stories to share, please add your comments below - what sights or experiences are a “do not miss”?

We have swag!

Everyone likes to bring a little something back to those who held the fort while you were away. If we’re lucky, we can sneak out of a session for a quick round of shopping, or take advantage of late store hours to bring back a thank-you gift.

You aren’t going to have that luxury at Libraries Without Borders - with the program we’ve got planned, you’re not going to want to miss a single session. And between conference handouts, the catalogues and freebies you picked up in the trade show, your suitcase will weigh a ton!

Let us ease your burden a little.

NE2007 has its own line of conference wear. Now available through Cafe Press, you can order tees, golf shirts and sweatshirts as well as mugs and a journal to keep your conference memories in.

Have a look at our store, at http://www.cafepress.com/ne2007

Going to AALL or CALL this year?  Enter your name in our draw, and you can win your pick of the swag - be the first in your country to win!

Wendy
